Recital Tip #4 -
Kid Proof Buns
KID PROOF BUNS:
-
Slick hair back using a wet
brush and hair spray.
-
Apply more hair spray.
-
Then comb with the wet brush.
-
Pull hair back into a pony tail at
the crown of her head. (Visualize a diagonal line from the child's chin to the
crown of her head)
-
Braid hair or wrap hair into the bun
shape.
-
Your goal is a neat, (flat) bun.
-
Secure bun with heavy hair pins and
bobby pins. Cross or X the pins to anchor them.
-
Most important is a hair net that
you can find at CVS.
-
Try to smooth out all whispies and
remember no bangs.
If your dancer is wearing a tiara,
flowers or head piece on stage it must be secured with bobby pins so that it
will not fall out.
Dancers who are wearing ponytail
hair pieces should first have their real hair in a bun and then put on the
artificial hair piece. This too must be secure. Add what ever pins you feel are
needed.
Details, Details, Details...
-
The little things that we
sometimes do not notice will become glaringly obvious in the stage lights.
-
Be sure to snip any strings.
-
Make sure tights are not sagging at
the ankles. Wear new tights.
-
Shoes should be spotless.
Soft scrub is great to clean leather shoes.
-
Check for nail polish, tattoos,
dirty shoes & tights, anything that will pop out and draw your eye.
-
Make sure all
children in the class have their tutus on the same way and their
straps are attached the same as well.
